Massage therapy is an ancient form of therapy. It can be traced back to ancient Asia, (China and Japan) the Middle-East,(Egypt) and the Mediterranean (Greece).  In fact, it was Hippocrates who defined massage as a form of medicine and famously referred to massage as “the art of rubbing”.

 

 

Massage gained popularity is Europe during the Renaissance.

In the 1850s it was introduced to America by two physicians who had studied massage in Sweden.
